Small Outdoor Wedding in Kananaskis Alberta

Small Outdoor Wedding in Kananaskis – an elopement-style wedding with family and friends

When Kayley, who has now become a dear friend, reached out about shooting her small outdoor wedding in the mountains (Kananaskis area), I was honored, excited, and looking forward to being a part of, and helping plan a day that was intentional and meaningful. A day that truly represented who they are and what they enjoy.

Kayley and Alex love the mountains and would spend many of their “date days” exploring different areas of the Canadian Rockies together. So it was only fitting for them to celebrate their wedding day in the mountains. Kayley actually fell in love with a previous elopement/small wedding day I photographed in the area (here’s the link to that gallery – Kananaskis wedding at Upper Kananaskis Lake) and said she could totally see herself having a day like theirs.

They started the day getting ready separately with their friends at a hotel/Airbnb in Canmore. Then we drove to the mountains and got ready for Kayley & Alex’s first look. They chose to have a blindfolded first look and wanted to keep their actual “first look” for when she walked down the aisle. We picked a cute spot in the woods overlooking the lake for them to pray with each other before we headed down to their ceremony spot.

Their ceremony:

They had the most beautiful, precious ceremony. So many happy tears from everyone around them. We even had random strangers join in on their ceremony, watching from further away! Everyone watched quietly as these two committed their lives to one another and made their promises.

Kayley & Alex had more friends come and kayak to the shoreline as their “receiving line” and it was honestly such a sweet thing to include as part of the end of their ceremony. And of course, they got into a Canoe themselves to go and chat with everyone in the water. They spent the next little while hanging out with everyone on the beach enjoying their wedding day!

After their bridal party photos, we spent the rest of the evening driving around Kananaskis stopping at multiple spots for Kayley & Alex’s couple portraits. It was such a stunning, relaxed, warm, summer evening.

They ended their day by having dinner with their friends and having people give them the sweetest speeches.

Thank you, K & A for having me be a part of your day! It was truly such an honor.
